Dr. Michelle Carter serves as the Associate Vice President for Community and Student Success. In this role, her key responsibilities are to collaborate with university leadership to drive diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) principles across CU. Dr. Carter is a native of Lexington, KY, and has served in higher education for more than 17 years. Her experience in higher education includes serving as the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students, Director of Counseling Services, Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, and Behavioral Mental Health Counselor at Kentucky State University. She also served as the Regional Campus Director, adjunct instructor, and in the TRIO Student Support Services, TRIO Educational Talent Search, and TRIO Upward Bound Programs at Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Dr. Carter is a first-generation college student and has worked in corporate America in a variety of positions before her career in postsecondary education. Dr. Carter is civic-minded, serves in her community, and enjoys helping others. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Lindsey Wilson College in Professional Counseling and Human Development, and her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Eastern Kentucky University. She is a licensed therapist, a commissioned Kentucky Colonel, and a veteran of the United States Army. Her hobbies are hiking, exploring lighthouses, chasing waterfalls, traveling, enjoying the arts, retail therapy, or reading a good book. Download Bio
